Museum History
The foundation of the Ethno-Prehistory Museum of CAI Naples took place through two successive steps.
The first one was the setup of the Speleologic Team; the second was finding prehistoric remains during cave explorations.
In 1957, Alfonso Piciocchi reestablished the former Speleologic Team in the Naples chapter of the Italian Alpine Club.
In the earler years, the Team activities were mostly dedicated to explore karstic caves.
As soon as in 1958, however, Mr. Piciocchi reported about an exploration, in a ridge of Alburni Mountains, to the Cave of Fra' Liberto. They saw paintings on the rocks, and found some silica artifacts.
